The move brings it in line with rival set top boxes that have long allowed users to access their existing Netflix account.
Alongside this, the telecoms giant has also launched a new ‘ultimate on demand’ package to replace its ‘box sets’ offering.
This offers a discount when you take out box sets and Netflix together, saving £35.88 per year and boasts over 1,000 on demand TV shows. We take a look…
What to watch? Combining Sky and Netflix gives viewers a choice of over 1,000 popular TV shows
What will its new TV bundle cost?
To take out the ultimate on demand bundle you first must have Sky entertainment.
This is its base TV offering with 300 channels including Sky Atlantic and Sky Witness and its Sky Q box costing £20 per month on an 18 month contract.
The new ultimate on demand add on costs an extra £10 per month.
Bought separately a Netflix subscription costs £7.99 per month and Sky’s box sets collection costs £5 per month.
This means buying the bundle save £2.99 per month or £35.88 per year, compared to paying separately.
In total this means for Netflix, box sets and the Sky Q box with entertainment channels you will pay £30 per month.
If you want to roll in broadband into your package you will pay more.
Its broadband packages start from £18 per month for average speeds of 11mbps or £27 per month for 63mbps.
If you simply want to sign in to an existing account with the streaming service (see below), there are not extra costs.
Those with the older generation Sky+ boxes will need to upgrade to Sky Q in order to be able to access Netflix.
What do you get?
The ultimate on demand package comes with 500 Sky box sets and all of the normal Netflix lineup HD.
Sky box sets currently offers whole series to download of popular shows including the Walking Dead, Grey’s Anatomy, the Wire, Billions, Patrick Melrose, True Detective and the Walking Dead and Game of Thrones.
Netflix subscriptions come with hundreds of films and popular TV shows, including its own shows such as Orange is the New Black, Stranger Things, The Crown, Making a Murderer Narcos and old favourites such as Friends, Prison Break and Gilmore Girls.
Already have a Netflix account?
A classic: Netflix currently shows all the old Friends episodes
If you just want to sign into your Netflix account on your set top box and leave your Sky contract then it’s as simple as signing into your account via the Netflix feature in your menu.
Linking them up won’t affect your Netflix profile.
If you are taking out a ultimate on demand package you will receive an email with a link to follow to activate your Netflix account, or you can do this through Netflix on your Sky Q box.
This allows you to either set up a new Netflix account or link an existing one.
What if you already have box sets?
If you already have a Sky box sets subscription you can keep this without Netflix or upgrade to the ultimate on demand package. You can do this by calling 0800 759 1442.
This requires renewing your contract for another 18 months, paying £20 per month (£25 after that).
What if you have a premium Netflix subscription?
There are two tiers of Netflix subscription, a standard offering costing £7.99 per month and a premium service for £9.99 per month.
The more expensive service allows you to watch on four screens at once (compared to two on the standard deal) and gives you ultraHD quality.
In order to watch Netflix in ultraHD on Sky you will need a Q Experience subscription (£12 extra a month), a 2TB box and a UHD TV.
Without this, if you bundle the two together under the ultimate on demand package you will automatically be dropped down to the standard Netflix subscription.
Double whammy: The Ultimate on Demand deal features both The Crown and Game of Thrones in one place
Can you get Netflix with other providers?
Sky is quite late to the party in supporting Netflix via its set top boxes.
Virgin Media was the first to support the Netflix app, as far back as 2013.
It also allows customers to pay for Netflix through their bill, but it does not offer any discounts or special bundle deals.
Talk Talk also lets users log in to their Netflix through their set top box but it won’t let you pay for it through your bill, you will have to have a separate subscription with the streaming service.
Talk Talk is currently offering a package with 11Mbps broadband including six of the most popular Sky channels for £25.95 per month.
A PlusNet Youview box already has Netflix loaded up, again you need to have a separate subscription. You can only get one of these boxes with its fibre broadband packages.
BT also supports Netflix through its BT TV Box.
